At Frankstown, there are both instrumental and choral activities for our students. Beginning in 4th grade, any child can play a string instrument which includes the violin, viola, cello, and string bass, These lessons are taught by Mrs. Valerie Montgomery.
Beginning in 5th grade, any child can play a band instrument which includes, trumpet, trombone, French Horn, baritone, oboe, saxophone, clarinet, flute, and percussion. These lessons are taught by Mrs. Melissa Ott.
Students take one thirty minute lesson per week in school and have numerous performing opportunities throughout the year including concerts, school performances, and community events.
There are two choruses in our school: Fifth andSixth grade chorus and Frankstown FranksTones. Any fifth or sixth grade student is welcome to sing in the fifth and sixth grade chorus which is held every week. There are no auditions for this two-part group. They perform in two concerts; one winter and one spring concert.
The Frankstown FranksTones is an auditioned vocal group that, in addition to the winter and spring concerts, perform at various functions throughout the school year. Practices are held weekly before school.
Being involved in a musical group can be one of the most memorable experiences of a student’s school years, not to mention that studies prove that test scores improve when children participate in music. Try it and you will see!!
