Welcome to First Grade
Families and Special Friends:
Welcome to first grade at Frankstown Elementary! What an exciting year your first grader has ahead of him/her! We, the first grade team, are delighted to be a part of your child's educational journey. Here in first grade, we build upon the foundation of learning that was set in kindergarten. The academic emphasis remains firmly on developing your child's reading and math skills, while incorporating lessons in writing, social studies, science, and health. Art, music, and physical education classes are included on a weekly basis. Also, we integrate special holiday activities and crafts throughout each month of the year.
One of the most important things that your child will be learning this year is responsibility. They will be taking ownership and pride in making appropriate choices each day, completing and returning homework, and being responsible for their actions and reactions to other students.
Our First Grade curriculum includes Houghton Mifflin Reading, Scott Foresman Math, McGraw Hill Science, Houghton Mifflin Social Studies, Harcourt Health, and small group reading instruction (Guided Reading).
Let’s work together to have a terrific year!!!
