Service-learning
is a way of involving young teens in
a community and of teaching
them to become good citizens.
Currently, there are eight organizations
in Blair County
that have jobs specifically for
teenagers to perform.
(We are adding to this list as we receive the information
from the organizations.)
Altoona Hospital - PMC
1. Mail delivery to hospital departments
2. Help at the information desk
3. Help in the waiting areas
Big Brothers and Sisters Program
1. Fundraising
2. Office work
American Rescue Workers
1. Helping clients
2. Packing food orders and hospitality packs
3. Stocking shelves
4. Sorting and arranging clothing
5. General cleaning
6. Approximately 30% of the volunteers are teens
American Red Cross
1. Fundraising
2. "Together We Prepare" program
3. Penny Wars (fundraising by collecting pennies)
4. Rock A Thon (rocking chair fundraiser
5. Measles Initiative (support efforts to vaccinate African children)
6. School Chest Program (collect supplies for needy children abroad)
Central Blair Park and Recreation
