Welcome to Third Grade
Welcome to third grade! We are excited that you chose to visit our site. Third grade is the transition year from the primary grades to intermediate grades. There will be many new learning experiences and activities. The biggest change this year is from learning to read to reading to learn as well as learning all of the skills involved in this process.
The language arts curriculum includes reading, guided reading, spelling, grammar, and writing. Our math curriculum involves reviewing previous skills, and then it's on to new skills in higher addition and subtraction, geometry, measurement, fractions, multiplication, and division. The content areas of science, social studies, and health are given grades for the first time this year. Since these content areas are somewhat challenging, we provide study guides for each chapter test. Weekly art, music, and physical education classes are also provided.
Included in every day's activities are test preparation for the reading and math PSSA tests given in the spring.
Third graders are expected to show respect and to use good manners. Good work habits such as using time wisely, completing classwork as well as homework, listening and following directions, and preparing for tests will make this a great year for all.
All third grade teachers also have individual sites. You may access the individual sites by clicking on the teacher's name.
